- You do need an harddrive for it, no doubt. Almost all software today require
- a harddrive. Unfortunately do the A500+ lack harddisk controller, and it don't
- accept standard PC controllers. Usually are harddrives for the A500 mounted
- in specialdesigned boxes that is plugged into the expansion bus that is located
- behind a small lid on the left side of the computer. These boxed fits both the controller and the hardrive (and often some memory expansion).
- Unfortunately are these boxes quite expensive, because of the expensiveness
- of the required parts and small series (compared to PC clone market).
- There is also some packages that require a litttle bit more hardware experience
- and involves opening the computer and mount the hardrive inside and plugging
- a card between the CPU and the motherboard, but they are quite rare.
- Since a stock A500+ only got 1Mb memory do I think he might have to get
- some more memory as well, but maybe it can be done without.
- The A500's hardware is any many ways obsolete, as you might already have guessed...
-
- The software you will need is a TCP/IP stack, and what 99% of the Amiga
- users are using is AmiTCP. There is a free demo version of it available
- from anonymous FTP from Aminet (one of these sites is: ftp.doc.ic.ac.uk)
- in directory /pub/aminet/comm/tcp . You will also need a script for
- dialing the internet provider with, and there are several of those in the
- same directory.
